Apologies for my prolific posting this week - a broken ankle gives much
time for thought.
I would like to put to the list, an idea which may have already been
mooted elsewhere - if so I would greatly appreciate details.
In light of the destruction of the Cultural Centre in Ramallah, and the
resultant destruction of original poetry, is it possible to locate or
establish a non political, voluntary internet service provider that
would act as a server to host a portal dedicated to the online
preservation of the work of poets under persecution or at risk of
oppression and destruction?
It is a simple step from destroying an arts centre's computer equipment
to targeting the server which hosts the online content of that centre.
This would require a dedicated movement of volunteers from around the
world to identify poets and poetry, and then digitise the content either
in translation or not.
Copyright issues could be dealt with directly through communication (if
possible) directly with the poet or cultural organisation/publisher
which houses their work and would act as some safeguard to preserving
the poetic cultural reality of oppressed poets in a non political
environment.
If anyone has any information on this, or would like to look into the
viability of such a project, I would appreciate it.
Regards
Maria Fletcher
