Hi Sam
Thanks very much for those comments/responses, they're really
interesting and generous - I wish I felt more up to responding (my
daughter's illness has written me off, she's better now and I'm
exhausted!)
You've accurately picked a couple of major influences - Randolph got
the Eliot - such old influences now, but deeply in the dna. It's
quite fascinating that genealogies can be picked like that... they
always interest me in other writers. It's not as if they were in the
forefront of my mind while writing those poems, though to be honest I
can't remember what I was thinking. I very seldom do know, and pick
these things up afterwards; it's the same I guess as unconcious
alliteration, or the intuitions of rhythm and metre, that you hone
and edit afterwards.
Best
