Glumly contemplating all the emails I +shouldn't+ have sent last night, I
think this bit deserves an explanation/apology. (Sorry, yet again, Kent).
> Well, as David Frost's Younger Brother said to the Clown, "Fuck off, Red
> Nose."
Decontextualised, this comes across as vulgar abuse directed at Kent.
But it's (I hope) more an obscure sixties reference.
David Frost's dumb_bunny Younger Brother (this is the time of _That Was The
Week, That Was_ [it's over, let it go]) went to a circus performance, and a
Clown came up to him and used him as the butt of his act:
What do you call the front end of an horse?
Uh?
What do you call the back end of an horse?
Uh?
Well, then, you're no end of an horse [arse].
Howls of laughter from the audience,
Anyway, deeply embarrassed, David Frost's Younger Brother went to Big
Brother and complained. And Frosty and his gang of scriptwriters get their
heads together to come up with a retort.
So the next circus night, David Frost's Younger Brother is sitting there in
the audience, and the Clown runs the gag on him again.
And at the end of the gag -- "You're no end of an arse" -- DF's YB says,
"Fuck off, Red Nose."
Hm ... Not even funny when I explain it, is it?
(Last grovel of the day.)
