What ypu have t say about films is very fine Alison:
>The American film industry bears a huge responsibility for the
>illusions of many Americans that nowhere else really exists, in its
>rewriting of history, its dubbing out of accents not American, its
>triumphalism, &c &c &c.
But there are a few outside that box, if only a bit. Sunshine State, which
of course only played a few independent theatres, definitely undermines the
usual illusions, for example. And the recent Far From Heaven is interesting
in its take on domestic films, the fifties, & the films that tried to
construct a positive domestic myth/ideology way back then.
