A lovely autumn day here between the rain of yesterday and tomorrow.
Blue sky with the occasional white fluffy cloud and a healthy dose
of wind. I was at the supermarket at 8 o'clock then the computer
broke down for my warfarin check delaying me at the hospital for
an hour, so I havent had time to read all the Times properly before
I head out for a round of three pubs: visiting friends, the bookshop
to see if my orders have come in [I just phoned London cos my booksearch
for THomas Bernhard's out-of-print Extinction came in succesful
and I had to pay for its arrival her in Bath by plastic], pay
the bill for my newspapers, and generally exchange the gossip.
It is a gorgeous day and too warm to wear a sweater indoors but
you need it outside in the wind. I hope I dont get caught in a
shower. And to say once again that Alistair MacLeod's Cape Breton
stories are wonderful and I have only two more to read in the book.
I hope I dont get a headache from the Butcombe beer in the last
pub I will be visiting but it always happens even on one drink (badly
kept pipes?) so I might not finish the book tonight before watching
Robert Winston on my TV whose switch mechamism is dying of old age.
