Some side-thoughts on this thread:
for a start, I can't but agree that there are dominant modes of discourse,
even as I write I'm lamely attempting such, albeit without wanting to
'boss', and that such inhabit poetry. And also e-mail discussion lists,
which is where my side-thoughts come in. I'm on the Buffalo list myself, but
I don't regard it or any other as being a market for prestige: in the past
I've got drawn into list-rows, even with friends, but now I realise that the
true value of such lists is the open and friendly discussion of something
that is, after all, an object of love, that recalcitrant, distant, intimate,
easy and difficult art we call 'poetry'.
I prize this list above all for its openness.
Anyhow, enough scrambled-egg (!!)
