Hi,
since Lawrence has already mentioned the British and Irish Poets list
responses to May 1st 1997 and Blair's inauguration may i add the url for a
project that i ran on that day and then again the following May 1st.
It was called 'Mayday' and can be found at:
http://www.var.ndirect.co.uk/var/mayday/index.html
on the var e-zine site which commissioned it. Visitors *might find it
somewhat confusing.
Basically i asked to e-mail and hard copy, fax etc responses to events on
May 1st. Those responses were then used as the basis for further reflections
one year later. The site was made as a 24 hour online 'performance'.
Sections were grouped under hours and a new section was added each hour
throughout the day. The contributions are identified as either being from
'97 or '98. There are multiple hyperlinks and it is VERY easy to get lost
between years and time frames. That was the intentions, to make it
conversational.
There was a range of contributors, of various ages (much as with the
"millennium Collection' of things not worth keeping which partly grew out of
this project) and styles and locations.
It might be of interest in this little thread. It's not at all a buzzes and
whistles website and was made to be accessible by almost all browsers, right
back to early versions. Some of the writing is prettty interesting and there
is a list of contributors.
You enter through the navigational clockfaces, each of which represents a
four hour section. Info about the project can be accessed by clikcing on the
splashpage 'mayday' banner above the clocks.
love and love
