Dear Alison,
Yes, it has been raining an awful lot lately--cats 'n dogs and their
buttered paws, you know how it is? So no I was not there on the off chance.
I am pleased to hear the poets of Christchurch took good care of you. And
that they were charming ones and that they were conversing ones.
You feel that we should be fostering some exchanging. I'm for that.
People, informations, addresses, books, money--where shall we begin?
Wystan

Dear Wystan, I saw Auckland Airport, and it was raining, and then I
saw the Domestic Terminal and alas, you were not there, and then I
was not there, I was in Christchurch. I am pleased to report that
Christchurch is full of charming poets who anxiously fed me in case I
starved on the spot, and conversed with me lest I should feel lonely,
and showed me some gorgeous countryside, and all in all, I had a
marvellous time.
And now I realise I have to remedy my desperate ignorance of NZ
literature, which is basically restircted to James K. Baxter and your
father. I think we must foster some cross-Tasman exchange.
Best
