"Batching it" has always meant, for me anyway, a male or males being single,
without a mate or their significant other is absent. Married men can "batch it"
for an evening. If a wife leaves on holiday then the husband is "batching it"
until she returns. It's as if being a bachelor describes a transitory state as
well as a social status.

I dunno, Mark. The mystery I shrug off anymore is never seeing the original
message that spawns all of the RE: messages. Sometimes I catch the original
embedded in a reply. However, nine times out of ten the whole thread has
metamorphosed into a critter best left to its natural demise:)
