WITHOUT IRONY I assure you - You are a humane person. And you are an
intelligent person doing a difficult job. If you chide me for lack of
thoughtfulness, I take it seriously; and your were not without
justification.
I sought therefore to remind you of the context, unfortunately at
Coleridgean length, with Melvillean accretion, but lacking either
gentleman's style, I am sure. No attempt at an encyclopaedic comment on the
present range of human suffering was being attempted; but clearly the
suggestion indicates a certain lack of sympathy with my method; and that is
understandable
I did and do see a degree of special pleading in your rebuke; but I
do on reflection feel that you had a point too and I shall endeavour to be
more careful.
