One for Lawrence and David Bircumshaw: I heard yesterday that
Waterstone's arent stocking SAlly Purcell's Collected POems
which means that I will have to order it. A mediavelist she
worked as a barmaid in Oxford until her untimely death,
publishing four slim volumes. What her poetry is about is
language and she creates a marvellous mosaic of words. She
doesnt tell a story. I am still not sure how good she was
hence my wish to read the Collected which has forty new poems.
Anvil, who have moved to Neptune House, 70 Royal Hill, London
SE10 8RF, are publishing it at 12 pounds. Another must book
if you havent the first edition is Peter Dale's revised translation
of Villon. This will eventually turn up in Penguin but WAterstones
are stocking the Anvil edition. His revised Laforgue is also
available.
