Not available in the US but everywhere else this polemic
has consumed me for ten days now until I have just finished
reading it. And I dont know what to make of it. It is
200 pages of such tightly packed material that my intellect
cant really cope. (Except for the last two chapters on the
Arts and the Americans). I think I will dump it on Alison.
It is probably near to the truth but who am I to say.
Next on the pile is Mary Midgeley's 'Science and POetry'
which got a dreadful review but which I couldnt resist
cos it mixes the Romantic poets with the evolutionary
biologists. And the kids are at the door again for their
trick-and -treat. Why cant they learn SCottish customs
and deliver their party piece for the money.
