Yes, maybe it's the disavowing that matters as practitioner, beauty
being something impossible to reach for, maybe something we have to
revolt against. Like Rimbaud torching all his beautiful palaces in
Illuminations. I wouldn't have called my post an "analysis" Harriet!
A few stabs in the dark, maybe. Perhaps it comes down to the fact
that making art doesn't make any sense to me without some conception
of beauty.
When I think of the 20C as a vague entity, Beckett is the writer who
stands out for me. Very chagrining yes, he's impossible to think
past, I think. A helixwise doubling back and up maybe?
