Hi Ivy
As a jazz fan, of course I have long loved the music of Cole Porter and the
Gershwins, especially, as well as others of thier ilk. When I'm singing to
myself (probably shouldn't confess that), their songs tend to be the ones
stuck in my mind, which says something about how well they made them.
But I also like a lot of rock-oriented songs, by singer-songwriters who
were after something else, songs written only for thier own voices
(although the best of them can be, & have been, reinterpreted by others).
What is interesting is how few of them contain the kinds of changes that
attract jazz improvisation. Hmmnn?
