Hi Chris & Maria
Thanks Chris for such a long & illuminating take on education. I can't
begin to respond to it beyond saying I'll think about it. And I am glad to
know that you're just telling us what you (have to) do. Certainly I agree
that 'education' by the state in things like AIDS?HIV drug use etc, fails,
& sometimes, mainly through censorship, which is, by definition, we can
perhaps agree, NOT education.
As for Larkin's comments, maria, well anyone who decided to hate the 3 Ps,
Picasso, Pound, & Parker is simply, as far as I'm concerned, not to be
trusted on anything. Although he can be fun sometimes. I'd argue, perhaps
again for myself only as Chris suggested, that one of the thigs that
happens is that the poems a poet who teaches writes are attempts to create
something that resists analysis. That's part of the fun. But then, I've
never been able to analyze poems all that well, as I'm usually too caught
up in the enjoyment of them, the participatory thrill so to speak...

We are stuck with technology when what we really want
is just stuff that works. How do you recognize
something that is still technology?
A good clue is if it comes with a manual.
