Simon, Jeff and Kevin;
Thank you Simon for listing your references in the post. It makes it
easier for me to request those references from my library.
Re: Basmajian, I have two 3-4 of his articles, but not the ones usu
cited in podiatric literature. I struggling thru them and I'll share later.
I do find it interesting Simon, that you will question the references
you listed and their accuracy re: muscle function, but not the accuracy of
the Ouzounian, and Shereff. ;-)
Also, I find it interesting that we tend to split hairs so often on the
list, and I'm sure I'm as guilty of that as anyone. When talking about the
MTJ, we have at least two authorities, Bojsenn-Moeller and Hicks, giving
references re:the locking mechanism of the CC joint and the the windlass
mechanism. These both lead to "autosupport" of the lesser FF joints
referred to. Everyone is so quick to criticize, but are their any studies
that would discredit Hicks and Boejsen-Moeller? Again I reference my
ignorance in this issue. I don't recall Eric Lee "dissing the dudes!" ;-)
Simon and Kevin, I understand your devils advocate position, and I enjoy
the role myself. I just find it curious that when Inman, and Basmajian
suggest intrinsic muscle activity during the period when the foot needs to
be most rigid for support, therefore supporting Hicks and Boejsen-Moller,
that we would criticize the obvious ( to me anyway) before citing literature
to the contrary! As Stephen Urry stated, "The corollary, to my mind, is
that only so much can be reliably determined by / predicted from static
clinical examination."
As far as what orthotics do w/ phasic activity, read me previous posts.
Muscle fibers type populations? No clue. MtJ spatial orientation, see
above. Basmajian, I'll get back to you.
Have a Nice Day! :-)
