hi john,
the 1004 provides lateral support as well pronation motion control. With the stability web, the shoe provides a mild anti-pronatory force. With the lateral extension of this web it provides lateral stability. This shoes does not promote pronation.
As for the whether or not a high cut basketball boot prevents inversion sprains, the jury is still out...however, I read a recent study supporting that high cut basketball boots do not decrease the likelihood of inversion sprains. however, if given the choice i would lean toward putting shaquille o'neal and his expensive contract into 890s rather than taking the risk of those studies and putting him into 1004.
if i find the paper i will scan it for you to have a read.
cheers, from oz,
will
