Hi Michael and all,
Is it possible to make a posting with (seemingly) only questions and no
answers? And have some fun while at it on a friday afternoon?
Michael wrote: 'The reason I believe simplicity to be an ethical issue is
because these
recent scientific developments have brought into question WHY we think the
world (or design, or explanations) ought to be simple', adding at the end
'OK, shoot me now.'
Are you a macho, Michael? Do you want and expect to be shot at? Is there
anything to shoot at in your e-mail? And wha-d'aya-mean-by-shoot-at-anyway?
Is a desire for simplicity an ethical issue? If yes, is it universal? Real
or theoretical? Any references on research on the subject? Seen any
religious or moral explicit preferences or argumentations for simplicity?
Is a simple good better than a complex one? If simplicity is desired, is
the desire estethical rather than ethical? Both ethical and estetical?
Anyway, does it matter whether it is one or the other or both?
Do I raise these questions to elicit deep philosophical treaties on the
subject? Or make an excuse for asking related questions? - like - - Could
a desire for complexity be just as likely or desirable as a desire for
simplicity? If, yes, does the answer have implications for designs and
designing? If yes to the latter question, does by implication all
theorising have implications for practical design?
Is Bryn based on the above rambling questions likely a firm believer in the
saying 'a fool can ask more questions than ten wise men can answer'? Who
wants to prove me a fool? Simplistic? (e.g. ethical?) Wrong?
(e.g.estethical?)
