LECTURER IN OPERATIONAL RESEARCH
Salary up to £34,349 inclusive
Applications are invited for an established appointment as Lecturer in the Department of Operational Research. The Department hopes that the appointee will have research interests in one or more of Decision Analysis, Problem Structuring Methods, Multi-Criteria Decision Methods or Stochastic Modelling with a special emphasis on Discrete Event Simulation. Experience that contributes practical relevance to teaching and research will be valued.
Operational Research has been established at LSE for over 40 years, and became an independent Department in 1997. The Department's strength, in teaching and research, is its expertise across the spectrum from 'hard' to 'soft' methods. The Department runs an undergraduate degree in Management Sciences, and two masters programmes in Decision Sciences and in Operational Research. Further details about these courses can be found on the Department's website at http://www.lse.ac.uk/Depts/op-research
The department's teaching was rated 'excellent' by the HEFCE quality assessment in 1994. In the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise all members of the OR group formed part of the Business and Management Studies Unit of Assessment which was awarded a grade 5. There is an opportunity for the appointee to collaborate with the established research programme in Risk and Regulation, and with LSE Health.
The closing date is 8th February, 2002. It is hoped that the successful candidate will be appointed from September 2002.
