Hello all
Until May I worked (for 2 years) at a laboratory chemicals and equipment
warehouse and distribution centre in the Midlands. I presume they would be
coming into contact with the same sort of shrink wrap and were applying it
themselves as the loads went out to customers. I cannot recall even one case
of hand dermatitis. Plenty of trouble with cardboard cuts and sliced
fingers from opening containers with Stanley Knives.
What is being contained in the shrink wrap? Could the contents be the cause?
Could there be contamination of the outside by any substance. Is it coming
from outside the UK? In some hot countries they fumigate the containers once
loaded to reduce the insect population.
You could conceivably get a bit of hand irritation form the dust that cling
film might attract, but I would look for other sources of the
irritation -soap perhaps?
Best wishes,
Diane

Subject: Dermatitis and shrink wrap
> Hi
> I have recently taken up a post as OHA at a large, new retail distribution
centre. I have recently had 2 men come to see me regarding blistering and
peeling skin on their hands, they inform me that it is due to handling
shrink wrap which they are removing from pallets. They have only been
employed for 1 week. I have not come across this before and no one else
within the business has either. I am currently waiting for info from the
suppliers, but wondered if any one on the list has come across this before.
