Dennis,
These standards are similar to those set by EMAS/HSE for
approval/monitoring of Appointed Doctors who carry out statutory health
surveillance, e.g. under the Control of Lead at Work Regs; the Control of
Asbestos Regs, the Ionising Radiations Regs, and COSHH Schedule 6 etc. The
competence & performance of Appointed Drs is monitored by EMAS Medical
Inspectors.
The Australian standards do not apply to OH nurses, although I would argue
that qualified OHNs should be able to meet most of them. There is a
closely linked working relationship between Occupational physicians and
OHNs, and many nurses carry out the practicalities of assessing need for
health surveillance (via risk assessments), and plan, implement and
evaluate programmes, referring to the Occ Physician as and when required.

Just noticed a typo error which crept in to my original message at the 4th
line, the words "....a not..." should read "....a lot...".
Sorry about that!
