I think this is great Patrick, thanks. Yes I agree with the
undeveloped thought about performance models and the more
developed one about derivatives, publishing etc.
One thought I had was of various non- new media exhibitions
of whose economic arrangements I am aware and which did
not include payments to the living artists included -
some/many works no doubt originally on the 'work for hire'
model, though many probably 'church work'.
My impression is that very few of the artists involved
in two of these shows I am particularly thinking of
would have been informed of their inclusion. In this
case the owners of the works also did not get paid.
So is the New Media situation chalk to this cheese, or
simply same old hard cheese?
Another related thought was that the trucking, hanging and
other costs involved in at least some of these shows
were considerable, perhaps more than web-art things ...
releasing cash for exhibition rights payments for the
web-art things?
