Selection via electronic voting in this project is what leads me to
semi-interrupt discussion.
Also Wilson/McDowell's project @ Mass MOCA- a virtual/physical show hybrid
in which museum visitors curate, document and compare their own show of
projected images from a database of artworks, may also be of interest to
some readers (see link below).

Don't miss the chance to participate -by submitting just one slide- in
"Majority Rules" an exploration of democratic curatorship.
All slides submitted will be projected as part of the June 2002 exhibition,
with the most popular submissions "winning" exhibition space in the autumn.
CALL TO ARTISTS
Slides of artists' work wanted for show in Glasgow gallery - one slide per
artist (or artist collaboration).
Slides will be included in the first part of the two-part exhibition
"Majority Rules" at Free Gallery, located in downtown Glasgow, Scotland.
For the first show (June 2002), all submitted slides will be projected in
Free Gallery on a continual loop. Visitors to the gallery will be invited to
vote for their favorite pieces.
Images of these works will also appear on the Free Gallery website during
the show so that visitors can email in their votes. The most popular works
will be shown in the second show, which will occur in the fall of 2002.
All slides of work within the following parameters will be accepted for the
first show: the work the slide represents must physically fit into the
gallery space (7.5ft high by 18 ft long max) and must be available to be
shown at Free Gallery in the fall of 2002.
This exhibition is being organized by Tara McDowell and Letha Wilson, a
collaborative team that takes an experimental approach to new methods of
curating. Their most recent project, (Your Show Here), is currently on view
at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art
(http://www.massmoca.org/visual_arts/index.html#ysh) and their previous
project, "Curatorial Proposal", was shown at Artists Space in New York City
in 2000 (http://www.artistspace.org/exhibitions/proposal.html) .
Tara and Letha are one part of a larger team of curators/programmers
organising exhibitions for Free Gallery after responding to the open talent
search entitled "Curator Wanted - No Experience Necessary".
