A few points in reply to the recent flurry of emails about leaving the list.
1. When you joined the list, you should have received instructions
automatically from the listserv about how to use it, including posting
messages, leaving the list and problem-solving. For those who don't have
their instructions, I am enclosing a copy at the bottom of this email.
2. Please show consideration for other list members by NOT hitting the
reply button if your message is trivial and meant only for the list co-
ordinator or the JISCMail service. Hitting the reply button automatically
sends the message to everybody on the list, which annoys many members if
the message is not for them. The joining instructions below give you an
email address to write to if you have any problems.
3. Politeness is a virtue. I co-ordinate this list on a voluntary basis,
and don't see why I should bother to sort out problems for list members who
are rude.
4. For those who've recently told the whole list of their desire to leave:
I shall take your names off the list. Some of you will be missed.
5. Finally, note that your automatic reply settings when you are out of
the office will be posted to the whole list. If you're likely to be away
for a long time, I suggest that you unsubscribe and rejoin when you return
(you can always check the list's archives on its web page for messages
posted during the interim).
I hope this is helpful.
Best regards
John
