Scope
TIEMS 2002 will be held at University of Waterloo conference facilities,
May 14-17. The conference theme is Facing the Realities of the Third
Millennium. There are now dimensions on the global scale that require new
approaches to managing and mitigating emergencies at national, regional and
local levels. Learn about new approaches for the new realities.
This is a conference for:

Scientists Researchers Business and Industrialists Educators
Practitioners Government
Major Themes:
There are general emergency management paper and plenary sessions by
leading keynote speakers
Special parallel conference tracks are being organized on:
Aviation and Marine Emergencies, Terrorism, Business Continuity, Wildfires,
Water Supply Emergencies, Floods, Urban Emergency Planning and Response.
Special Workshop Programs:
Community-Based Disaster Mitigation – organized by George Haddow, Jane
Bullock, Ann Patton, Eleonora Urrutia, and Alejandro Maldonado
The program committee will consider additional workshop proposals from
individuals and agencies interested in organizing special workshops or
conference tracks.

Publications and Awards
Conference papers are peer reviewed, published in the conference
proceedings and are abstracted on the TIEMS web site.
TIEMS will nominate top conference papers for publication in its journal
IJEM (International Journal of Emergency Management), published by
Interscience Ltd. There is a $250 US award for the best student paper.
