I think that it is an important initiative by UN ISDR and the Stakeholder
Forum for Our Common Future, as it will lead towards Rio +10 in
Johannesburg, in September 2002. It will raise political and public
awareness on disaster risk reduction and it is essential that all
stakeholders are heard in ths participatory process that they are promoting!
Disaster reduction is a cross-cutting issue that comes out in may chapters
of Agenda 21. The outcome of this meeting will be presented at the fourth
PrepCom in Bali, May 2002 and at the World Summit on Sustainable Development
(WSSD) - 26 August to 6 September 2002.
