Risk Frontiers - Natural Hazards Research Centre

Risk Frontiers is a small industry-funded research centre specialising in
innovative approaches to natural hazards risk assessment, with particular
applications to the insurance industry. Current applied interests focus on
flood, hailstorm, bushfire, earthquake and volcanic risk modelling in
relation to buildings, lifelines and economic activity.

We are seeking a Deputy Director to take responsibility for promoting the
mission of Risk Frontiers and to assist in the growth of the Centre through
both research and development, and interaction with industry partners. Other
duties will include the supervision of postgraduate research students and
participation in industry seminars.
The ideal candidate will have an established research reputation in a
natural hazards field relevant to the Risk Frontiers mission, an excellent
relevant background, including a PhD or equivalent industry experience in
engineering, architecture, science, statistics, GIS/remote sensing or other
appropriate fields and a demonstrated ability to both manage scientific
research projects and to liaise between scientific and insurance industry
organisations.
The position will initially be offered for a term of three years and the
successful candidate will be employed by Macquarie Research Ltd, a wholly
owned subsidiary of Macquarie University.
