PhD STUDENTSHIPS
As a result of multi-million pound funding recently awarded by the
Northern Ireland Support Programme for University Research, the IRCEP
invites applications for the second round of funding of PhD Studentships.
Current research in the IRCEP is in the areas of atomic and molecular
processes, plasma physics, laser interactions with matter, condensed
matter physics and materials science. Details of the research activity of
the 60 academic staff in the School of Mathematics & Physics can be found

Six studentships are available for research on experimental, theoretical
and/or simulation projects. The projects will reflect the developing
interests of the IRCEP. They will involve collaboration between the
different research areas within the School of Mathematics and Physics or
with other academic disciplines or industry. A list of the PhD projects
available for these studentships is posted on the website at

Applicants should preferably be available to start before 31 March 2002.
Successful applicants can be from any country and will receive a
three-year studentship which will cover full tuition fees and maintenance.

forms completed by two referees, the earliest starting date and a brief
statement outlining your interest in one or more of the listed projects.
