I would appreciate it if you would please bring the following advert to
the attention of any current postdocs or finishing graduate students.

University of Warwick, UK
Departments of Chemistry and Physics
Postdoctoral position in the nanoscience of metal clusters
A 3-year EPSRC postdoctoral position is available starting April 2003.
Based in the group of Dr Stuart Mackenzie in the chemistry department you
will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary group of physical
chemists and physicists interested in the investigation of small metal
clusters.
The starting salary will be on the academically related RA1A grade
(currently GBP 18,265 - 27,339 pa; USD:28k-42k or euro: 28.5k-42.5k).
The Project
This project marks a major new collaborative project between research
groups in chemical physics (Dr Stuart Mackenzie, Chemistry), surface
science (Prof. Phil Woodruff, Physics) and ion cyclotron resonance mass
spectrometry (Professor Peter Derrick, Dr Tom Drewello, Chemistry).
You will be involved in the design and building of a major new instrument
capable of producing transition metal clusters with isomeric (structural)
selectivity using laser spectroscopic methods. These isomers will then be
injected into a Fourier transform ion cyclotron mass spectrometer where
their reactivity towards small molecules will be studied as a function of
cluster geometry.
Systems studied will be chosen according to their relevance to industrial
heterogeneous catalysis.
Experience
You will have a PhD in either physical chemistry or physics and have
experience of several of the following areas:
Pulsed laser spectroscopy
High resolution photoionization (ZEKE, MATI)
Molecular beam methods
High vacuum technology
FTICR mass spectrometry
Spectroscopy / reactions on metal surfaces
Metal clusters
