Candidates are sought for a post-doctoral position at Montana State
University in the laboratory of Prof. Tim Minton. The research involves
gas-phase and gas-surface reaction dynamics of hyperthermal oxygen atoms
with hydrocarbons and is relevant to interactions of spacecraft in low Earth
orbit with the ambient environment. Many of the experiments will employ a
crossed-beams apparatus with a rotatable mass spectrometer detector, while
other experiments will use a new UHV apparatus built for beam-surface
studies and equipped with a vacuum STM. Additional surface analytical
capabilities exist in the laboratory (AFM, Auger, profilometry, contact
angle) and in a user facility (XPS, SEM, AFM, TOF-SIMS) on the Montana State
University campus. Further analytical techniques that are to be developed
include LIF and/or REMPI detection of volatile reaction products and FTIR of
modified hydrocarbon surfaces. Experience in one or more of the following
areas is required: vacuum systems, molecular beams, surface analysis, laser
spectroscopy, and computer programming/interfacing. The initial appointment
will be for one year and will be renewable for one or more years. The
position will remain open until it is filled. The complete announcement may
be found at: www.montana.edu/level2/jobs.html. Interested candidates should
contact Prof. Minton for more information or submit a CV and names and
contact information of three professional references to: Prof. Timothy K.
Minton, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, 108 Gaines Hall, Montana
State University, Bozeman, MT 59717 USA. Electronic inquiries/applications
