To those with experience in the use of electron and ion optics software:
Would you be able to advise us on the optimal program package available
for the design of 3-D electron optics incorporating the effects of space
charge? (Specifically, for the design of low-energy electron guns.)
Ideally, it would run on a Windows PC or possibly on Linux.
SIMION, which seems to be the most widespread program, cannot handle space
charge rigorously. There are several packages on the market, but they cost
between $1500 and $3000 or even more, and it is scary to invest this amount
of money into a random unfamiliar product.
I would appreciate any comments on which package appears to be the most
optimal and user-friendly. Maybe there are even more economical
possibilities?
Thank you.
