Two positions (one pre- and one postdoctoral) are offered in the Department
of Theoretical Atomic an Molecular Physics in the Institute of
Mathematics and Fundamental Physics, CSIC, in Madrid, Spain.
The position is framed in the Research Training Network entitled
"Theoretical studies of electronic and dynamical processes in molecules
and clusters" (THEONET II), funded by the European Commision (see
http://www.tc.bham.ac.uk/theonet).
The research topic is the study of dynamical processes in the
collision of vibrationally excited molecules, using quantum mechanical
methods. In particular, we are interested in the study of the
four-center (breakage and formation of two bonds) and dissociation
reaction in H_2 + H_2, and in the investigation of
vibrational-to-electronic energy transfer in the collison of
O_2 + O_2. These reactions are of great interest either in
astrophysics and combustion, or in atmospheric chemistry.
The responsible of these projects are Dr. Jose Campos-Martinez
and Dr. Marta I. Hernandez (see
http://www.imaff.cfmac.csic.es/fam/personas/marta/marta.html or
http://www.imaff.cfmac.csic.es/fam/personas/pepe/pepe.html for a more
detailed description of the projects and publications).
The Department of Theoretical Atomic an Molecular Physics
(http://www.imaff.cfmac.csic.es/fam), leaded by Prof. Gerardo Delgado
Barrio and Prof. Pablo Villarreal, is a very
active group composed by a large number of senior scientists, postdocs
and students, and is located in a campus where interaction with many
other scientists is handy.
The candidate should have a grade in Chemistry or Physics, and
experience with computational methods. The EC requires that:
- applicants must be nationals of a European Community Member State
or an Associated State (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the
Republic of Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia,
Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia,
and Slovenia), or they must have resided in the Community
for at least five years immediately prior to their appointment in
the network.
- be no older than 35 years at the start of their appointment
(exceptions being possible due to compulsory military or
civil service, or child care)
- must not be a national of the state in which the participant's
research team appointing him/her is located, and must not have
carried out his/her normal activities in that state for more
than 12 of the 24 months immediately prior to his/her
appointment.
Interested people should contact as soon as possible Dr. Hernandez (email:
[log in to unmask]), sending their curriculum vitae and list of
publications. The period of
appointment would be of about 12 months for both pre- and postdoctoral
positions), starting no longer than november 2002.
These contitions are, however, rather flexible
and can be negotiated, and extension of the periods can also be
considered.
