Dear collegues,
please attract your advanced students, graduate students and/or postdocs
attention to the Summerschool described below. There is still support
available.
From 22 to 27 September 2002
Gustav Gerber and myself
have organized a Summerschool on
"Optimal Femtosecond Laser Control of Microscopic Dynamics"
sponsored by the "Wilhelm und Else Heraeus - Stiftung"
The school will give an introduction into this fast developing
interdisciplinary field by discussing theoretical and experimental
fundamentals, most recent results and potential future applications. The
level of presentation is aimed at advanced students, graduate students, and
postdocs in universities and industry.
COSTS and LOCATION:
Covering full board and lodging at the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef (Germany)
from dinner on Sunday to lunch on Friday
Euro 235 (Euro 185 for students)
Euro 140 without lodging
FUNDS:
The WE-Heraeus Foundation provides funds for young physicists, members of
the DPG, German Physical Society (contribution level A or E), or European
sister societies, covering partly (up to 50%) the expenses for full board
and lodging and travel expenses within Germany.
ABSTRACT
Obtaining active control over the dynamics of quantum mechanical systems is
a fascinating perspective in modern physics. A promising tool for this
purpose is available with femtosecond laser pulse-shaping and the
application of algorithms for closed-loop learning control.
Different approaches to achieving control have been developed and applied
to various objectives, both theoretically and experimentally.
Due to the universality of computer-controlled learning optimisation of
ultrashort laser pulses a broad range of applications opens up in physics,
chemistry and biology.
