PhD position: Phase-locked femtosecond pulses for metrology and laser control
We have an opening for an enthousiastic PhD student project to apply
phase-controlled pulses from a femto-second laser in an innovative way.
On the one hand we intend to use a stabilized frequency comb (in operation at
the moment) for metrology studies, where we specifically will investigate
'molecular clock states'. These transitions will be measured with extreme
precision, where the limits will be explored. Ultimate aim is to define
molecular transitions that might play a role as primary or secondary frequency
standards.
Secondly the candidate will be involved in pulse shaping to initiate and enhance
photophysical processes by means of controlling the intensity and phase of the
various frequency components of the laser pulses.
The position is for 4 years for which a full salary (Dutch AIO-OIO-conditions)
is available and is open to all nationalities.
The Laser Centre VU Amsterdam is a large research centre for interdisciplinary
laser research with a stimulating environment at which about 50 PhD students
carry out their studies using lasers for Physics, Chemistry and Biology
projects. LCVU is a Large Scale Research Facility recognized by the European
Union.
Requirements: university education in physics (possibly chemistry), with
experience in lasers and electronics.
