Subject: Tudor Mining for Lead at Caldbeck Cumbria
For those who may not have come across this article before. An excellent
article on the identification of the old 16th Century German workings,
described in archive sources, with the remains on the ground appears in :
Article IX : The Lost German Mines at Caldbeck
by Richard Smith, Samuel Murphy and Warren Allison,
p.89-104, Transactions of the Cumberland and Westmoreland Antiquarian and
Archaeological Society, 3rd Series, Vol. 1 (2001), Titus Wilson & Son,
Kendal.
Orders or enquiries for publications accompanied by a SAE should be sent to
Mr. Ian Caruana, 10 Peter St., Carlisle, Cumbria, CA3 8QP, Cumbria or try
the
society web site at http://www.cwaas.org.uk
I don't think they still do off-prints of articles but enquire about this
with Ian. The cost of the full volume is about £15 if I remember
correctly.
