RE: [MRSOC] RE: Rangeworthy colliery sidings
-----Original Message-----
Last Saturday we were on a geological field trip to the North Bristol
Coalfield, and were fortunate enough to be invited to see the remains of
Oldwood Pits Colliery. We were shown the original adit, and the top of a
later shaft which was 324 ft deep. The present owner is writing a history
of the colliery and would be grateful for any information concerning its
railway history. The Colliery had a connection with Rangeworthy Colliery
sidings. According to John Gough these sidings were opened between April
1883 and November 1885. The sidings were closed on 19th May 1888, and were
removed on 28th August 1893. We would be most grateful for any information
from members concerning the operations of the sidings and any surviving
illustrations or photographs.
Regards
Chris Rouse
