Some members may be interested in an article re Cothercott Barytes Mine,
South Shropshire, published in current edition (March 2002, No.168) of
Industrial Railway Record, organ of Industrial Railway Society. It runs to
nine pages. A lot of it concerns the tramway associated with the mine but
there are:
a) equivalent of c.2pp re companies & the mine per se
b) c.2pp on remains of mine
c) 1p surface map/diagram
d) four photos, one re tramway plus one (fuzzy) of headgear in 1927
(captioned as one of only two known views of mine working), one splendid
overall view of mine in context of surrounding hills shortly after closure
in 1929 (courtesy of BGS), & one of remains of skip wagon.
(Mike Gill - is this suitable candidate for mention in next NMRS N/L?)
Anyone interested who doesn't know how to get copy, please contact me off
list & I'll try to find details.
Rgds,
Ken Smith.
