Yes, Rob, I think it was at Guadalcanal. Would be interesting to take
another look to this connection.

Duncan did spent most of his live in Cordoba where he married my
GGGgrandmother and where my gggrandfather William Shaw was born. I've been
in Cordoba looking for this smelter but didn't find it. I have a copy of all
the documents keept by the local authorities about the permisions granted to
Duncan. On those papers it is mentioned that the smelter was located in an
area named "los santos pintados" and also very near to a little river.

The river is now a canal under the floor and is difficult to locate, the
name of the area is known to my mothers family (all of them are from Cordoba
and some of them where owners of some terrains near from there) but they are
not able to point the exact place in a map. Internet was my last posibility
and I found a mention of "a mountain bike way passing near to the old
smelting building where it is divided in two, the first going to..." but I
couldn't conntact the webmaster nor find anybody else able to help me to
find this building till today.

It seems that the place is probably 15 minutes walking north-east from the
new rail station.

The last time I went there was in easter 2001 (I am now living in
Luxembourg), I did spent two hours looking up and down around the place
where I believe it should be but... found nothing.

I have many photos of the place and a high resolution aereal photo.

The history is more complicated and interesting than that as Duncan's son
married one of the daugthers of the builder (an also engineer) of the fist
train in andalucia (Córdoba-Málaga) where Duncan is supposed to have great
interest and perhaps collaborate. Another of the engineers working in that
line was one of the ggfathers of my mother, so I could say I am the son of
this train.

I'll continue working on that and keep you informed if I find anything new.

Best wishes

Arturo Shaw

       Arturo

You mentioned your ggggrandfather originally worked on a silver mine near
Seville. Would this be in the Guadalcanal area. I believe I have come across
a reference to one of the Linares mines (Los Infantas) purchasing equipment
in the area. I think!

I also believe Duncan Shaw was primarily in charge of the Taylor's
smelting operations in Cordoba. Do you have any information on the location
of this smelter?
