Are you sure? Try as I might I have been unable to trace the reference to
early trials of rock drills in northern England in British Mining. The only
reference I've found re use of rock drills at Sir Francis Mine in my copy of
British Mining occurs on p.557, in a small table; however I'm willing to
stand corrected.
Raistrick & Jennings (1965) quote the trials from Sopwith's diary, and
itself quoted in: Thomas Sopwith, B.W. Richardson (1891). They also state
the Sir Francis Mine information from: Richard Trevithick, H.W. Dickinson
(1934).
