Dear List,
I have been doing a little research into the recent history of Coldberry Mine
at Middleton in Teesdale Co Durham, initially as part of a historical study
of the site to support a grant application by NPHT (1992) and more recently
out of my own curiosity
The mine was surveyed in 1937 by English Lead Mines Exploration Limited,
probably owing to high lead prices because of the Spanish Civil War, and
detailed sections and structural maps drawn up. Although some development
work was done, it seems that production never took place until 1952, with a
new venture Coldberry Lead Co Ltd.
This company was directed by Professor Granville Poole, and his son Gordon
was employed by the company for some time. What I seek is some biographical
details of these two men and any others which were involved throughout the 8
years of production. I believe that Prof Poole was a letrurer at Kings
College Newcastle University, and had interests in Seghill Mining Co.

Mark Pinkney (DDMS)
