I recall reading that the "shining ore" in Devon is hematite with a finely
micaceous texture and sparkly luster (perhaps equivalent to specular
hematite). Hope somebody will correct me if this is wrong.

1) Raddle - three occurrences in Mines List 1908, all at Micklebring nr.
Rotherham (Yorks)
2) Shining Ore - four times, idem, all in/near Bovey Tracey (Devon).
