Subject: Caving in Mid Wales, research for new website
I am currently working on an outdoors website for Wales focusing on outdoor
activities in Powys and Gwynneth.
As part of this website we want to include a lot of information about
caving, I am aware that a lot of the caving around here is done in mines
which are often quite unstable. So I would like to use the local groups as a
stepping stone for visitors wishing to come caving here, ie: here is
information on the caves in this area, use this for your research then get
in touch with a local group to do your actual trip with or find more
information from. Safety has to be paramount, I do not want to encourage
reckless caving.
The information provided would be a mix of historical and present
information, lots of maps overland and underground, cool pictures and caving
reports, special attractions like the calcified water wheel near Eglwysfach.
I would also like to include a local groups, guides and safety procedures
page.
I am fully aware that the best knowledge and information comes from the
local cavers and groups. As such I am looking for any local groups or
indivinduals who would like to contribute information to the caving section
of the site or be listed in the groups section.
We are initially going to cover the area from Dolgellau down to Borth and
about as far across as Newtown so any info, maps of pictures of that area
are most welcome. I know the majority of caves in that area are mines so we
want to provide a lot of online details and local contacts so that anyone
wishing to visit them can review the mine on the site and then contact a
local club to hopefully go out with a member of that club, obviously safety
is paramount especially in the old mines we tend to have around here.
If you would like to hear more or make any suggestions then please do get in
touch.
Many thanks, J.Douglas
