Hi Barry,
another shafts sinking company is Thyssen which is a German company. In the
UK it's Thyssen (Great Britain) Ltd They have sunk the Cynheidre shafts in
South Wales, Boulby Potah mine and some shafts of the Selby complex. Look at
http://www.thyssen-schachtbau.de/. Deilmann-Haniel is another company, but I
don't know about activities in the UK.
Hope that's helpful.
Greetings from Duisburg/Germany
Thomas

Subject: Shaft Sinking
Hi everyone
My Grandfather was employed as a shaft sinker all his life (pre N.C.B) but
never worked in a mine as such. But all his six sons did.
My father told me, that my Grandfather would travel up and down country
sinking shafts, (All in coalmining areas) Were shaft sinkers a band of
specialist, and if so who employed them i.e was it the mine owner or a
specialist mining group.
Thanks
Barry
