I think that what Wedlake was saying was that coal was in use at those
sites, rather than that it was being mined, although there were, of course,
collieries at Camerton and Clapton-in-Gordano much later.
As regards Woodchester, it's only about twelve miles from the northernmost
point of the Bristol and Somerset coalfield at Cromhall, although the Forest
of Dean is rather closer as the crow flies.
