I now have the Executive Summary of EA's Metal Mine Strategy for Wales. It
was dated June 2002 so we would have expected it to be circulated earlier
but I had to prompt them for my copy. The summary repeats the outline and
conclusions found in the draft strategy document, and lists the
recommendations also in the draft. Implementation, and the timescale,
suggest an initial project over 2 years but with only part-time commitment
to project development. The eight sites identified in the draft, Llanfair,
Bog, Caegynon, Esgairlle, Goginan, Llewernog, Parys and Minera, remain at
the head of the list for remediation. Further sites from Groups 3A and 3B
will be selected for further investigation and those in Group 4 will be
prioritised according to their impact.
The summary does continue the stress on co-operation and consultation with
the various interest groups. A full strategy document is expected shortly
and should be available on the Web.
