A new book has been published by County Durham Books, the publishing arm of Durham County Council about the village of Shotton Colliery.
The community came into being with the beginning of coal production at the colliery in 1841 by the Haswell Coal Company.
The colliery finally closed in 1972.
The book contains around 50 photos dating from the early 1900s through to the 1970s and also gives a potted history of the village, its colliery and its people from carnivals to football teams. The price of the book is £2.95.
