In regard to my last posting I included two errors -
(i) I miss spelled Lithofracteur - substituting an i for the o.
(ii) John Darlington's paper appeared in 1878 (December) not 1879.
Pedantry aside I found an advert in Mining Journal from 1877:
"Lithofracteur
The best explosive known for every kind of Quarrying, Mining, Tunnelling,
Subaqueous operations.
Unrivalled for Strength, Safety, and Freedom from Gasses.
Export orders delivered free on board in the Thames - Pamphlets on
Application.
Responsible Agents for the Country Districts apply to:
Krebbs Brothers & Co., Sole Manufactirers and Patentees.
22. Basinghall Street, London E.C"
(Mining Journal Feb. 3, 1877 p.125)
N.B this ad ran throughout the late 1870's.
Rick Stewart.
