This is a request on behalf of a couple of Americans who are researching
their Welsh origins. I'd be grateful if anyone can help
Is there any record of 'White Russians' arriving in Wales around C16/17 to
work in mines?
Also can anyone tell me when intensive mining in the North and South started
enough to bring people from other areas to work
The name they are looking for is....Coleman. One American book has told them
that the name isn't really found outside, Sussex, Essex and Northampton oh
Dear!( Mine are Irish but that's another story!)
Also on my own behalf was their a tradition of exodus from the area around
Bristol to the mine fields of South Wales as my own family seemed to have
moved their for work
I'm sorry if this isn't strictly mining but I am very interested in the
history of mining and movement of 'outsiders ' into traditional mining areas
and would welcome suggestions for reading.
Thank you, Gill Rice
