Alan,
>'Discovery of a Lead and Silver Mine Worked by the Romans. - Captain
Reynolds, of Llanidloes, has discovered a valuable lead and silver mine, at
Snowbrook,
Snowbrook, or Nantyreira, is much older than the Roman occupation period,
dating from the Bronze Age when the received view is that it was worked for
copper. The tag 'Roman' would be given to any workings outside of
contemporary memory in the 19th century. Such workings were identified by
miners at Llanfyrnach, in Pembrokeshire, due to their small size although
there is no real evidence for working there prior to the 18th century.
