Let's have some facts and less passion or axe-grinding.
West Mine is closed because up till now the owner (Mr Paul Sorensen) has
always paid for insurance against claims arising from the mine, albeit with
some support from the Derbyshire Caving Club. The DCC has an INFORMAL
arrangement with the owner and when the owner decided not to renew insurance
without a more substantial contribution from the DCC, we decided not to help
him and access was closed. We have discussed with him the possibility of our
obtaining a formal access agreement and covering our visits through the
BCRA/NAMHO insurance which the club carries. We have also discussed
alternatives which would save him the problem altogether. These discussions
have not been concluded.
If Mr/Ms Abbadine/Neil/Mitchell etc etc wants to know more about access at
Alderley Edge, I suggest he contacts the DCC direct either through me or via
our website.
